About Us
Welcome to Kent Blaxill Builders Merchants
For almost two centuries we have been the premier builders merchant in Essex and Suffolk. Our long history has enabled us to develop an unrivalled reputation for service and quality, expanding into all aspects of our business. We have supplied materials continuously since 1838 and have no plans on stopping.
Our History
We were founded by John Kent in 1838 as an Oil and Glass shop on the historic Colchester High Street. Operating as a family business for over 180 years, the company continued to expand and grow, reaching into all sectors of the bustling building industry.
In 2023, we joined forces with IBMG – this is a move that has allowed us to put even more focus and attention into enhancing our reputation whilst still following the family principles that got us where we are today.
What we do?
There isn’t much we can’t do. Recently partnered with IBMG business, operating out of two branches in Bury St Edmunds and Colchester we can comfortably serve the entire Essex and Suffolk area.
Kent Blaxill can supply everything from foundations to finish. Our well-stocked yards contain absolutely everything you need to make your dream space a reality. Pair that with our experienced staff and the expansive offerings from our shops and showrooms, there isn’t anything that we can’t get involved with.
We supply everyone from commercial contractors to the avid DIY enthusiast. Whether you’re doing a new build or a renovation no project is too big or too small.

As of 2024, we are more active than ever, gearing ourselves up for the future and prepping for the next 180 years.
